APRIL PROGRAM MEETING

Our Anchorage Audubon April 17 Program will be a Spectacular Springtime Double Header!

The Main Event will be a fabulous insight into how to landscape and plant your yard in order to attract more birds. Landscape Architect M. Elise Huggins and Wildlife Biologist Lisa Pajot will share their expertise to help you optimize your habitat for our feathered friends. We’ve gotten a gazillion requests for this knowledge over the years, and this is your chance to learn from the experts as they discuss landscaping for birds including how to improve residential habitat, select the proper plants and design spaces ideal for birds.

Also on the program will be a short intro to the weekend’s Gunsight Mountain Hawkwatch. There’ll be a Hawkwatch history, a recap of this year’s sightings, some Raptor Identification tips, and everything you need to know about the big party on April 19 & 20.

What a combination: Landscaping to enhance bird habitat, The Hawkwatch, and tons of cookies!! It’s our last indoor program of the season, and we hope to see you there.

Fall Freeze-up Bird Walk

The Fall Freeze-Up Bird Walk.
Saturday, October 12

Westchester Lagoon, Kayak/Canoe Launch/Viewing Deck, 9:00 am

Come watch waterfowl and other birds at hotspots around town before the lakes freeze. Andrew Fisher will lead this outing to a number of good waterbird locations around town including Westchester Lagoon and Lake Hood/Spenard. Enjoy searching for the less usual waterbird species during this exciting time of year or just enjoy the typical species that are still with us. Bring binoculars and a scope if you have one and dress for the weather. We will bird rain, snow, or shine.

We will meet at Westchester Lagoon at the Kayak/Canoe Launch by the new Viewing Deck at 9 am. The field trip typically concludes around 12-12:30pm, but bring snacks and/or a lunch if you want to keep birding with others afterwards. Blueberry scones will be provided!
